customer-service requirements. The objective is to create a feasible timetable for the trains. If a feasible solution is not possible, planners relax some of the soft constraints. If this does not help, modi cations in the lines system are explored. STATIONS: Routing the trains through the railway stations is an extremely dif cult problem that cannot be solved simultaneously with the timetable. Thus, STATIONS, another DSS, is used. Again, feasible optimal solutions are searched for. If these do not exist, system modi cations are made. This DSS solution is fairly complex due to con icting objectives of the government and the railway company (NS), so negotiations on the nal choices are needed. To do so, Railned developed a special DSS model for conducting cost-bene t evaluations. It is based on a multiple-criteria approach with con icting objectives. This tool can rank alternative cocktails based on certain requirements and assumptions. For example, one set of assumptions emphasizes NS long-term pro tability, while the other one tries to meet the government requirements. The DSSs were found to be extremely useful. They reduced the planning time and the cost of the analysis and increased the quality of the decisions. An example was an overpass that required an investment of $15 million. DONS came up with a timetable that required an investment of only $7.5 million by using an alternative safety arrangement. The DSS solution is used during the operation of the system as well for monitoring and making adjustments and improvements in the system.

You can build online civilizations with Civilization: Call to Power (CCP). Like earlier versions and public spinoffs (such as the Freeciv described earlier in this chapter), Civilization: Call to Power for Linux lets you explore the world, build cities, and manage your empire. The last version offered by Loki Games includes multiplayer network competition and extensions that let you extend cities into outer space and under the sea. If you like Freeciv, you will love CCP. Engaging game play is improved with enhanced graphics, sound, and animation. English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish versions are available.

A WAR file is basically just a ZIP file with special directories placed inside it so the application server can deploy it successfully. ANT makes creating WAR files very easy. The war task takes input for the specific positions in the structure /WEB-INF/ web.xml, /WEB-INF/lib/, /WEB-INF/classes/, and /WEB-INF/web.xml and produces the resulting WAR file, which is then ready for deployment. The war task makes it easy to build the WAR file from a variety of disparate parts. For example, your main web.xml file may be created out of a file that might not even be named web.xml; thus you are able to build up WAR files using different targets. Listing 27-9 depicts and example of creating a WAR file using the war task.
If you simply want to install DSL to a pen drive or other media, DSL offers an automated feature for doing that. Once DSL is on a rewritable pen drive, you can easily add applications (using the MyDSL feature) and customize desktop features in a way that persists across reboots. Puppy Linux The project uses its own package management system (called PupGet) that now offers more than 300 packages you can add to Puppy Linux. By adding and deleting these packages, you can create a customized version of Puppy Linux. For information on adding packages and saving your configuration to a custom Puppy Linux distribution, refer to the Puppy Unleashed feature:
