The popularity of slang terminology tends to wane quickly, resulting in items that sound dated or peculiar in a few years. References to local social or cultural institutions are unlikely to be interpreted similarly in a different part of the country or world, and dif culties are particularly likely to arise in attempts to translate a scale into other languages.
