using randomized group designs. All of the theories would benefit from longitudinal studies that look at the development of BPD from an early age, perhaps even prospective studies, to test the various theoretical assertions that are based on clients recollections. Assessing the invalidating environment, excesses in aggression, or maternal withdrawal would greatly clarify existing theories.

Proof: If the computer does not know l(x), the method of Theorem 14.2.2 does not apply. We must have some way of informing the computer when it has come to the end of the string of bits that describes the sequence. We describe a simple but inef cient method that uses a sequence 01 as a comma. Suppose that l(x) = n. To describe l(x), repeat every bit of the binary expansion of n twice; then end the description with a 01 so that the computer knows that it has come to the end of the description of n.

Furthermore, it is imaginable that most xed objects could be de ned by their location, either indoors or outdoors. Moreover, one can easily imagine that some xed objects could obtain their location through the use of GNSS-based systems. In such a case, the ultimate positioning system would be able to exchange data as well as detecting the proximity of two objects (transmitters). Only xed objects would be equipped with GNSS (because of the reduced cost and the automatic con gurability of the infrastructure). The location of a device is obtained through exchange with close objects, which, most of the time, know their own location. When this is not the case, more sophisticated algorithms are required (maybe inducing an increased uncertainty of the positioning). An example of such a system could be the positioning of a pedestrian through his mobile phone, which is linked to the mobile phone, of the car driver going along the same street. As the car is equipped with a GNSS system, the mobile phone of the driver has an accurate location available. When passing close to the pedestrian, position data transfer is possible and gives information about the position to the pedestrian s mobile phone. The car is an obvious way to obtain the position, but one can think that bus stops, entrances of buildings, traf c lights, or also doors, windows, lights, and so on (for indoors) know their position. This idea brings us back to the initial aspects of GPS: positioning where no infrastructure is available and not in cities, buildings, and so on. The situation is certainly a little different in developing countries where the type of infrastructure described above is probably not going to be available in the near to medium term. In such a case, satellite navigation systems are the enabling technology that will allow these countries not to be left behind. Applications would certainly be oriented more towards the transport domain (GNSS and SBAS are already envisaged to provide small airports with landing capabilities without requiring expensive radar, for example) or managing energy, resources, and population. Here, global positioning systems and their availability and coverage are probably the technology that will make numerous developments possible.
