As the car is equipped with a GNSS system, the mobile phone of the driver has an accurate location available. When passing close to the pedestrian, position data transfer is possible and gives information about the position to the pedestrian s mobile phone. The car is an obvious way to obtain the position, but one can think that bus stops, entrances of buildings, traf c lights, or also doors, windows, lights, and so on (for indoors) know their position. This idea brings us back to the initial aspects of GPS: positioning where no infrastructure is available and not in cities, buildings, and so on. The situation is certainly a little different in developing countries where the type of infrastructure described above is probably not going to be available in the near to medium term. In such a case, satellite navigation systems are the enabling technology that will allow these countries not to be left behind.
