The scoring algorithm alone makes Oracle Text much more impressive than plain SQL wildcard searching. But wait, there s more! First, you can do wildcard searching exactly as it is done in SQL. Just use the _ character to represent a single character and the % character to represent any number of characters. More interesting, however, are the expansion operators. You can use the expansion operators so that related terms are also searched. You can expand the term to include words with a common root, words that sound similar, and words that are spelled similarly. Table 10.2 lists the three types of operators.
