Upon closure of TC1-34, CIE Division 1 assigned a reporter on color appearance models. The task of a reporter is to keep track of developments in a technical area and make recommendations to the CIE if it appears that a new TC should be formed. This reportership was recently concluded since all of the relevant CIE activity on color appearance models was taking place in TC8-01 and it was reaching conclusion by publishing a new model, CIECAM02.

Now, enter the form defined by a simple style sheet. The same page, displayed in a modern browser, as shown in Figure 17-2, is a beautiful design full of different fonts, sizes, and colors, with varied alignment and overlapping text. (Visit this page yourself and experiment with it. Resize the browser window, and watch how the text moves to fit the window.) Without a style sheet, the only way you d be able to create such an effect would be by using an image. Rather than a few simple lines of text, your viewers would have to download a large GIF or JPG. And voice synthesizers, Palm Pilots, and other similar devices would know only what you wrote in the image s <alt> tag. GoLive makes creating a style sheet very easy because it provides a clear, simple, visual interface. All you do is start the style sheet, click one of three buttons to assign one of the three possible style selectors, name the selector, and then choose the look of your style from the Inspector. Or, even easier, a contextual menu provides some of the common selectors, all ready to use.

Bleeding-edge processors are generally the most powerful at crunching data and processing, naturally. They are also the most expensive, reaching a current maximum of more than $1,000. So the question you have to ask is whether they will be better for an HTPC than a less capable processor.

leptin action in mutations affecting lep, lepRb, or downstream neural signalling molecules (see below) is responsible for the hyperphagia, reduced energy expenditure and obesity of several genetically-obese rodents (Figure 6.10) and in some extremely rare cases of human obesity (see 8) (O Rahilly and Farooqi, in press). Both peripheral and ICV leptin administration reverses the hyperphagia, obesity and diabetes in ob/ob mice, which have no biologically active leptin because of the ob mutation. By contrast, db/db mice whose LepRb are disabled by the db mutation and unable to bind leptin show no response to leptin (Camp eld et al., 1995; Halaas et al., 1995; Pelleymounter et al., 1995). These effects were originally thought to be mediated primarily through the ARC, where LepRb density is high on neurones expressing the neuropeptides that act as downstream mediators of leptin: leptin inhibits the NPY neurones, which increase eating, while stimulating the POMC neurones, which inhibit eating. Recent evidence, however, indicates that the caudal brainstem is also important in mediating leptin s effect on eating (Grill et al., 2002).
