The Security tab contains four check boxes: n Run script commands when present: Use this option to allow Media Player to run scripts (small programs) in media that contain them. Scripts are a great way for nefarious Internet predators to do things to your computer that you may not want them to, so leaving this option unchecked (as it is by default) is best. n Run script commands and rich media streams when the Player is in a Web page: You may never encounter rich media streams, such as slideshows, but if you do, you need this option checked for them to run properly through Windows Media Player. It also allows script commands to run while the player is embedded in a Web page, which is normally safe. n Play enhanced content that uses Web pages without prompting: Leaving this item unchecked causes Media Player 11 to prompt you before it loads a Web page called up by content it may be displaying. The best practice is to leave this option alone. n Show local captions when present: Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange (SAMI) captions are an accessibility feature for the disabled that are turned off by default. You can turn them on by checking this box. Finally, notice the Zone Settings button, which enables you to tweak Internet security zones, as you can do through Internet Explorer 7+ (Figure 18.37). Windows Media Player uses the Internet security zone, which is typically quite secure by default.
