A data source contains the connection information for a database or data file and includes the data source type, connection string, and credentials. A data source is required to retrieve data for a report. It can be defined and stored within a single report, or it can be shared by multiple reports within the project. Like a report, shared data sources can be deployed to the report server. Both shared data sources and report-specific data sources can be modified using the Report Manager or SQL Server Management Studio once deployed to the report server.

7.5.2.3 X.21bis X.21bis is a Layer 1, or Physical Layer, speci cation used in X.25. X.21bis de nes the mechanical and electrical parameters for cables and connectors in support of FDX transmission at speeds from 9600 bps and 64 kbps for point-to-point connections over four-wire circuits. As a pure Physical Layer speci cation, X.21bis addresses the movement of electrical bits across a wire that connects DTE and DCE, and that s about all. In addition to moving bits, of course, there are provisions for call control, which entails the devices using signaling leads to signal when they are ready or not ready to receive calls. There also is a provision for signal timing, or synchronization, at 8 kbps. Figure 7.17 illustrates the relationship between the Layer 3 PLP packet, the Layer 2 LAP-B frame, and the Layer 1 X.21bis bit stream. Note that the physical layer circuits connecting nodes in the network core can take any number of forms, from analog to digital, T-carrier to Ecarrier, copper to ber, and anything in between. 7.5.3 Error Control

One can imagine the folks in the marketing department at Microsoft getting together with the development folks, thinking of ways to make buying and activating your operating system something cool and fun to do. After much reflection, Genuine Microsoft is born (logo shown in Figure 4.3). The imaginary backroom scenario aside, the Genuine Microsoft Software concept is very much real. In our case, it is Genuine Windows. The idea behind it is to see the tangible benefits of activating and validating your copy of Windows Vista (or any other Microsoft software). For years, Microsoft has used a Certificate of Authority (COA) that represents genuine Microsoft software. Be careful, this is not a user license! This simply means that the software on your computer is true and legitimate and not off the streets. Using genuine software is extremely important, especially when we re talking about operating systems. As a consumer, you want to know that your software is a genuine product issued by Microsoft. Using genuine products comes with certain guarantees and assurances (not to mention product support) that pirated or bogus software cannot. To make sure your copy of Windows Vista is genuine, you can validate it. Microsoft creates a match between your computer s hardware profile and your license key (what you used to activate the software). Besides the obvious ethical and legal reasons for not using illegal software, there is an incentive to validating your copy of Windows Vista. If you fail to do so within the required time frame, features will stop working one by one until you either validate your operating system or until everything is disabled.
