On Windows Phone, there are two main entry points for the Marketplace if you re looking for games. You can use the dedicated Marketplace application in All Programs. Or you can side load the Marketplace s App experience through the Games hub. Just tap the Get More Games link at the bottom of the Collection view. The Games area on the Marketplace (Figure 7-18) is an ever-evolving collection of game titles, divided into common areas such as Featured, Top, New, Free, and so on, as well as a list of game genres and all games. Remember, too, that you can search from within the marketplace at any time by tapping the phone s Search button. As with other apps on the Marketplace, each game will be presented on its own page with various tidbits of information, including the name, developer, price, description, screenshots, rating, reviews, and links to related games (Figure 7-19). You can share the game via e-mail or messaging buy it, and, if available, try it. You can even leave your own rating and review if you d like.

n The menu bar (Figure 20.2) runs along the top of the Windows Movie Maker window. This Windows Vista application uses traditional (File, Edit, View, and so on) menus, as opposed to a button-laden toolbar. n The Tasks pane on the left (Figure 20.3) shows you the sequential steps you take in creating your movie, and it s complete with links to invoke each module you need to proceed. Although the commands on the task pane are also available elsewhere (that is, through the menu in the menu bar), invoking them through the Tasks pane is often easier for first-time users.

1.7 PERFORMANCE COMPARISONS In robustness, optimality (i.e., minimaxity) of a given procedure is an important aspect, but it must be regarded as part of a larger picture. In particular, it must be complemented by pe$ormance comparisons-for different sample sizes and underlying situations, and with other procedures. The so-called Princeton robustness study was a first, and exemplary, investigation of this kind, see Andrews et al. (1972). The Princeton study showed up some intrinsic drawbacks of empirical sampling studies. The main one is that they only can give a collection of punctuated spotlights, since each simulation is done for one specific procedure and one specific situation (sample size and distribution). Even worse, the Monte Carlo sampling variability at each such spotlight may exceed the performance differences one is interested in (e.g., between the effects of the underlying distributions), for all practicable Monte Carlo sample sizes. The Princeton study managed to overcome this in part-that is, for suitably structured families of distributions-by Tukey s Monte Carlo Swindle : utilize information available to the person conducting the Monte Carlo simulation, but not to the statistician applying the procedure. This swindle permits one to reduce the differential sampling variability. After the Princeton study, Tukey proposed an even more sophisticated approach based on the idea that any particular sample configuration can occur under any underlying distribution (provided the latter has a strictly positive density), but its probability of occurrence depends on the latter. This is the basis of the so-called configural polysampling method, see Morgenthaler and Tukey (199 1). Another approach to the investigation of the small sample behavior of robust estimates, avoiding empirical sampling altogether, is based on the so-called small sample asymptotics. This will be discussed in 14.
There is one more thing to consider before you create the sketch. What should you use to create the offset: the actual block edges or the original sketch The answer to this is a Best Practice type issue.
In the following sections, we discu,;s the effects of many of these factors and issues individually.

[This theorem was first proved by Huber (1964); the elegant proof given above is based on an oral suggestion by T. Liggett.] If the set P is endowed with the vague topology, then Fisher information (4.20) is lower-semicontinuous as a function of F (it is the pointwise supremum of a set of vaguely continuous functions). It follows that I (F ) attains its infimum on any vaguely compact set P, so we have proved the following proposition.

SQL Server is a multi-threaded application, meaning that it can execute on multiple processors concurrently for increased performance. The threads are designed as follows: A thread for each network connection A thread to handle database checkpoints Multiple threads to handle user requests. When SQL Server is handling a small number of connections, a single thread is assigned to each connection. However, as the number of connections grows, a pool of threads handles the connections more efficiently. Depending on the number of connections and the percentage of time those connections are active (versus idle), making the number of worker threads less than the number of connections can force connection pooling, conserve memory, and improve performance. From code, the maximum number of worker threads is set by means of the sp_configure stored procedure and the max worker threads option:
