a rude awakening. Professionals in the business of conducting security assessments frequently find the same old mistakes companies are simply not exercising enough diligence in protecting their proprietary information and computer systems. The reason businesses and government agencies conduct security assessments is to identify their security posture at a point in time. Moreover, they could measure progress after remediating any vulnerabilities that were identified. Granted, a penetration test is analogous to an EKG. The next day, a hacker can break in using a zero-day exploit, even though the business or agency passed their security assessment with flying colors. So, calling for a pen test in the expectation that it will confirm the organization is doing a bang-up job of protecting its sensitive information is folly. The results are likely to prove exactly the opposite, as demonstrated by the following stories one for a consulting company, the other with a biotech firm.

Will the operational environment support the summarized data elements (i.e., has the data warehouse designer specified data in the warehouse that cannot be calculated from the operational data source) What is the trade-off between keeping lower levels of granularity for detailed analysis versus the cost of storing those details The costs include disk space, performance, and database management overhead, especially for very large databases (VLDB).

interests. In a world where the Internet eclipses broadcast radio and television and newspapers as the information source of choice for its users, the traditional concept of mass-market power will be replaced by the mind share and purchasing power of a large number of individuals participating in a vast array of micromarkets, which in the aggregate eclipse the volume of the traditional mass market. (Fig. 3.7) The potential for long tail products emerging in the wireless broadband industry is highly likely. As the global penetration for these presently mass-market products continue to expand and commoditize over the coming years because wireless penetration extends beyond its current reach of 3.5 billion (as of late 2008) users worldwide, the demand for product differentiation and niche market products will grow. If only for the potential to maintain margins on handsets, the migration to mass specialization is inevitable. How rapidly the commoditized mass market for cellular handsets extends its long tail into the future will depend on the speed with which the manufacturing industry can implement short-run, software-de ned product development and manufacturing techniques that will allow customers to customize their product purchases from the equipment vendors.

Tip If you want to test whether the namespace of an element is the default namespace, you should test whether there are any characters before the colon in its name. Elements in the default namespace of the source XML document do not have a prefix. You can test whether an element has a prefix by checking whether there is any text before a colon in the element's expanded name. If there is text before a colon, it has a prefix; if not, it doesn't. For example, the following selects all elements in a document that are in the default namespace at the point where they are specified:

Max. Transmission Unit: 512 Reliability: 100% Load: 0% Hop Count: 1 Notice in the output that IGRP uses only 3 bytes for the IP addresses that appear in routing entries. For example, becomes 16.30.0. On modern networks, it seems silly to save 1 byte at the risk of confusing protocol analysts not to mention other routers but when IGRP was invented, bandwidth consumption was a bigger concern. As it turns out, a destination is recognizable with only 3 bytes. For interior routes (the type of routes shown in the output), at least the first byte of the IP address is always known from the address of the interface on which the Update is received. System and exterior routes can also be carried in 3 bytes, because the last byte is always 0 for these types of routes. Because the IGRP metric is a composite metric, when you issue a show ip route command, you won't see delay and bandwidth called out, but you can notice in the following output that the network reachable via the serial link has lower bandwidth and higher delay than the networks reachable via the Ethernet link. The metric is shown following the administrative distance, which is 100 for IGRP routes. For example, [100/1200] means administrative distance 100 and metric 1200. charlotte#show ip route Codes: C - connected, S - static, I - IGRP, R - RIP, M - mobile, B - BGP D - EIGRP, EX - EIGRP external, 0 - OSPF, IA - OSPF inter area El - OSPF external type 1, E2 - OSPF external type 2, E - EGP i - IS-IS, L1 - IS-IS level-1, L2 - IS-IS level-2, * - candidate default Gateway of last resort is not set is subnetted, 5 subnets I [100/1200] via, 00:00:52, Ethernet0 C is directly connected, Serial0 I [100/8576] via, 00:00:54, Serial0 I [100/1163] via, 00:00:53, Ethernet0 C is directly connected, Ethernet0

To properly understand the importance of the corporate director s position on the audit committee, one must understand the nature and importance of the concept of corporate accountability in the new legal and regulatory framework under statutory law. Therefore, the major objectives of this chapter are: first, to revisit the meaning and significance of corporate accountability; second, to explain the significance of major audit committee developments in the context of corporate accountability with special emphasis on those of the past five years; and third, to show the impact of corporate accountability on the audit committee and its corporate relationships. Although the recent failures of major corporations, such as Enron, WorldCom, and others, have accelerated the need for legal and regulatory reforms, the concept and meaning of corporate accountability in relation to the institution of the audit committee remains the same both before and after accounting scandals. However, with the enactment of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, the substantive meaning of corporate accountability has caused many best practices for audit committees to become statutory law. Moreover, the new legislation has caused an institutional restructuring of the accounting profession as well as additional resources for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to curb abuses of fraudulent financial reporting.
